NO ISSUES more clearly articulate the characteristics which have defined the operating style of a Christie-led government as we have come to know it and to contrast it with what we have come to expect from the present Administration than this issue of oil drilling and the Bahamas Petroleum Company.
THIS TIME, next week a new Government of the Bahamas will have been elected.
I have read many letters in the press recently, some of which I can fully subscribe to, hence I hesitated to write one of my own. But certain events have now compelled me to write.
A LETTER published in today's Tribune discloses information that the writer believes that the public "needs to have" about PLP deputy leader Philip "Brave" Davis.
THE Ministry of the Environment and Free National Movement (FNM) Minister Earl Deveaux made the right decision to tear down several controversial Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) billboards about the record number of murders that the country has had over the past five years.
THOSE who follow and support political groups have an agenda. The distinguishing factors that set them apart are pinpointed by what they allow, what they support, and how blind they are to their leaders inconsistencies and indiscretions. The way in which these differences are perceived by the Bahamian people on May 7, 2012, will not only determine who will lead for the next five years, but how serious the electorate has become about politics at many levels.
I READ with interest Philip Davis' comments in the article written by Dana Smith in The Tribune published on Friday, 27th April, regarding an alleged conflict of interest concerning the Bahamas Petroleum Company.
I REMEMBERED when the PLP came to office in 2002, Mr. Christie often echoed the phrase, and "The voice of the people is the voice of God."
ONE MONTH ago, the FNM, in my view, was on dangerous political grounds insofar as re-elect ability may have been concerned.
AFTER listening and watching the PLP's election campaign as it moves through the various constituencies I am forced to ask the question: "Is Perry Christie the Leader of the PLP or is he leader in name only?"
I WOULD like to say "thank you" to all the energetic, warm, wonderful, nation- building team who assisted me in organising our Montagu Constituency Jobs Fair which was held last week at the Uriah McPhee School on Kemp Road
Please publish these 10 questions for Mr Christie:
JUST a few observations that I have recently made of the political scene in the Bahamas: The PLP is saying to anyone willing to listen that their administration created 22,000 jobs between 2002 and 2007.
Re: Contact awarded for museum restoration. - The Tribune April 20, 2012 THE article mentions "preserving historic sites for the benefit of future generations".
AS MAY 7th approaches, all registered voters and people who we think are registered will be faced with a common problem.
We are quickly approaching May 7th. It is amazing to me that the PLP continue to follow the Prime Minister wherever he goes to have a rally.
As I move around I can hear and feel the frustration that engulfs our society.
It is truly amazing that politicians are so able to divide us along the lines of their views. We look at the same item and depending on our political leanings we develop totally opposing views.
ASK any Bahamian: "What is the size of New Providence?" Invariably you will be told "21 by 7". Wrong answer! The length of our "Island Paradise" is just over 18.5 statute miles (16 and a bit nautical miles)! Don't believe me; check it out on Google Earth or a chart plotter!
THE defacement and destruction of FNM posters and signs could be noticed throughout the island of New Providence. On my way out of my community of Mt Pleasant Village today, I have noticed that the sign and posters of the FNM leader, and candidate have been knocked totally out of the ground and smashed.
1957: Nassau International Airport opens. One hundred protesting taxi drivers block access to the new airport for 24 hours.
POLITICS is a game and there are no rules. The game board is comprised of players who claim that they want what is best for us. They will say anything and do anything to get "another chance", to do all the good things they would like to do for us.
I HAVE noticed that three of the giant campaign posters of Free National Movement (FNM) Member of Parliament for Pineridge, Kwasi Thompson, have been torn. I am referring to the posters on the circle on Coral Road and Settlers Way; Pioneers Way and East Mall Drive and Pioneers Way and West Atlantic Drive.
WITH election fever upon the citizens of The Bahamas, Foxdale Subdivision is being courted by the sitting member of parliament with the promise of a long overdue playground being provided after said MP is re-elected.
I WAS taken aback after I had seen a photo of popular Grand Bahama activist Troy Garvey on stage with Gregory Moss at a massive Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) rally in Freeport at the Old Portion Control grounds on Saturday, April 14, on a popular Internet newspaper that is pro-PLP. Moss is the PLP's standard bearer for the Marco City constituency.
