Christian Council land

Why on earth does The Bahamas Christian Council think that they need a building for themselves, and why more serious does this new Government think the BCC should be granted Crown property?

Questions for the govt

THERE are issues of far greater concern.

Achilles hell of the PLP

An Official Opposition (PLP) member has exposed his party’s Achilles heel when expressing contempt for the newly elected Prime Minister’s national address.

Bail’s bad for your health

Re: Gunmen Murder Bailed Teenager. – The Tribune, 31 July, 2017.

It's the people's finances

I HAVE purposely allowed a few days to pass, after the Prime MInister’s address to reply.

Crumbling post office

THERE have been many remarks recently concerning the deplorable state of our main post office, both in structure and function. There are possibly at least two explanations for this:

Minnis becomes a true leader

Dr Hubert A Minnis (FNM-Killarney), our erstwhile Prime Minister, has transformed himself into a “real” leader right before our eyes. This is remarkable in that less than a year ago, the good doctor had been written off by many Bahamians and political pundits. I must confess that while I had endorsed him to become leader of the badly demoralized FNM back in 2012, when he appeared on my then radio talk show, REAL TALK LIVE, I too had my initial doubts that he could rise to the occasion.

Bringing back the death penalty

Re: Death penalty needed to stop murders. – The Tribune, 25 July, 2017.

No more tit for tat

Wayne Munroe seems to be gearing up to attempt to blackmail the FNM government and PM Dr Hubert Minnis by presenting his alleged list of corrupt FNM politicians, past and present, to the Anti-Corruption Unit. Based on my understanding of his comments to the media, his latest venture is not even sanctioned by the PLP top brass. With or without their approval, Munroe intends to flex his legal muscle by taking on the FNM government unilaterally.

NHI wastage

On May 31, you printed a letter from me questioning why government should continue with NHI. In that letter it stated...

Tribune is out of touch

I’m not sure what happened, but it seems as if The Tribune is a bit out of touch with the sentiment of the public lately. For example, what on earth was with their headline on Thursday?

Must We Handcuff All Defendants?

Since when did the pursuit of justice start with the public humiliation of an accused person? For too long we have sat on the sidelines and watched as defendants in criminal cases are brought before magistrates and judges handcuffed, shackled at the feet and escorted by the burliest officers on the Police Force.

Listen to the truth, Mr Davis

Opposition Leader Philip “Brave” Davis likened PLP MP Chester Cooper to “a child who tells the truth no matter what the cost” for his very candid assessment of their party’s recent election loss.

Problems facing Harbour Island

I spent the past weekend in beautiful Harbour Island. The ride from Nassau to Harbour Island and back is a beautiful experience, especially if the boat is not too “jammed up”.

WHISTLE WHILE YOU FLY A KITE

There is in this country a long-standing tradition of eloquent men who choose to share their opinions with the wider world behind a veil of anonymity. That is their choice and I do not harbour strong feelings one way or the other.

Threats to Minnis

Bahamians remember that in June PLP Chairman emeritus Errington “Minky” Isaacs threatened to strike PM Dr Hubert Minnis in the mouth after the PM had revealed in the House that Isaacs had received a very lucrative BPL contract under the Christie administration. The threat made national headlines.

Legalise marijuana

I write in reference to a letter advocating for the legalisation of marijuana which was published in your daily on 20/7/17.

Apologies for the corruption

Two PLP apologists have come to the rescue of their scandal-ridden party: Rodney Moncur and one Andrew Allen. Moncur is nursing a grudge against the FNM after it decided not to give him a nomination before the election. The former Workers Party leader, DNA candidate and Loretta Butler-Turner Senate appointee appears to be suffering from political schizophrenia. He is a political opportunist and, in my opinion an impostor who will probably be begging the PLP for a nomination in 2022, life last.

PLP mismanagement

The former PLP Government’s actions will have a lasting impact on the minds of the Bahamian people of its mismanagement of the economy, crime, unemployment and increasing the debt with spending.

Toughen up law on phone use

The most mysterious phenomena of all times is the proliferation and saturation of the use of cellphones. Everyone has several, children as early as 2 years are playing games on the cellphone. iPad or kindle.

BTC must be commended

YESTERDAY marked the opening of the Commonwealth Youth Games at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium.

Setting an example

WHAT Island Country with seven letters beginning with “B” has a Standard & Poor’s rating as A Plus. Give up? It is Bermuda which, it has been said, is “a leading jurisdiction for re-insurance, capital markets”, etc.

Wonder woman

AS a PLP, I was devastated after the horrendous loss of May 10th 2017. Never before in The Bahamas has a party suffered such a loss. With my party holding just four seats in Parliament I was certain that the PLP, my party, would offer little or no opposition to the FNM with 35 seats in Parliament.

Legalising marijuana to cut crime

LEGALISING marijuana can reduce crime. Parents, guardians, siblings, cousins, aunties, uncles and friends mourn today because of the non-stop shooting deaths in New Providence. The cycle is all too familiar.

Rose-tinted view

Re: D’Aguilar: We’ll counter false information about country.
